Personality
Talkative | Gullible | Easily Frustrated | Anxious | Loving | Energetic
Ilias is a vivacious young man, who loves life and likes just about everyone.
Outwardly, he’s a very happy-go-lucky type, with boundless energy. This energy has gotten him into trouble on more than one occasion, running headlong into danger he’s not prepared for - being raised in such a sort of stable, well-to-do lifestyle has left him a little more trusting than he should be, though recent experiences have begun to make him a little more wary.
Internally, Ilias struggles more with anxious thoughts - the feeling that he is not good enough for his parents, or friends, or that he’s not a good enough father to Chryssanthi - so he pushes himself extra hard, trying to be the best he possibly can - and still feels he’s not quite good enough. This leads to him getting easily frustrated with himself (and often others). He lives to please, and thus, would rather be told what to do than think for himself.
His cheerful external attitude combined with his desire to help people makes him a decent healer, and the kind of person always willing to talk to a stranger and help them should they need it. He is doing his best to aid as many people as possible in these turbulent times, despite his own troubles - the loss of so many in Cantor immediately after losing his family home in Nisalvini has struck hard. In his mind, if the gods have deemed him worthy to live this far, he’d best live up to them as well (not to mention the constant draw to Aurea now sitting in the back of his mind).
History
Born the youngest of five siblings in Nisalvini, Ilias had an easy childhood. His parents were relatively well-to-do, stable, and he grew up in a generally happy home. After some rough experiences with his older siblings, Ilias’ parents did not particularly push him to go into one field or another, and he floated aimlessly through his early years without a sense of purpose. Being raised in Nisalvini, he’d been around boats most of his life, and found work as a dockworker loading cargo. Not exactly a job he enjoyed, but it paid bills.
And paid for a lot of alcohol.
Of course, this eventually led to trouble - being drunk on the job, an accident was inevitable- his grip on a rope slipped as they were lifting crates onto a ship, and he was hit by the falling debris, slipping off the dock and almost drowning. He was forced to return to his parent’s home, where they could care for him (and ensure he would sober up). During this time he rediscovered a childhood love of gardening, and began to pursue healing more actively as his mother tutored him.
After several years of tutoring (and working to scrounge up the funds), Ilias moves in with his aunt, Boloma, in Estraude to further pursue study, beginning to concentrate more in druidism. He struggles in schooling, and after nearly ten years and relatively little progress, he moves back home to Nisalvini to study.
Eventually, he meets Ginette - a clever human woman studying at one of Nisalvini’s many mage’s institutions. They developed a relationship, and after a year or so, Chryssanthi was born. Ginette, who had already expressed how she didn’t want to raise a family, grew increasingly unhappy as the baby’s permanent illness became apparent, and she left when Chryssi was a few months old.
Since then, Ilias has done his best to support his daughter, working under his mother at her apothecary. After his father’s death, Kamon retired, and left the apothecary to him. The whirl of change in the last few years has given him little time to adjust to life or mourn his father, and now with the world hanging in the balance, he’s not sure he’ll ever have time.
Current Story
When Nisalvini sank, Ilias, his mother, Kamon, and his daughter, Chryssanthi, all fled to Cantor. His status as a refugee did not prevent him from applying his healing skills where needed, and he quickly befriended the locals, especially a one Elentiya Linden.
After Cantor burned and they fled underground, Ilias had plenty of work healing burns and reckless explorers alike. When he wasn't busy with work, he would worry over his mother and Elen both - a not unfounded worry, as Elen worked herself to the bone in research.
He was extremely pleased to once again walk under blue skies when they finally escaped the underground, but their desperate circumstances and the subsequent destruction of Delverne weigh heavily on his spirit. Not to mention, while his mother was soothed by the ability to say goodbye to Ilias' father one last time, it only reopened a poorly healed wound for Ilias. He continues to fret and ruminate on the second loss of a father he missed desperately.
Additional Info
He likes reading well enough, but hates to do so in front of others - he’s always had difficulty with it and was embarrassed by how much slower he was than others.
His middle name is Theodoros - “Gift from the Gods”, named by his father after the auspicious circumstances of his birth - his mother had lost several babies and struggled with her health before having him (and on Day of Renewal, no less).
