Experience Points (EXP)
Earning EXP
Experience is earned through group participation - art submissions, events, games, activities, roleplays, prizes, etc. When submitting for EXP, please remember:
Only main characters can gain EXP and EXP bonuses.
Be clear which character is receiving the EXP. Use their official name, not nickname.
Always give EXP to the character you used to earn it, not someone unrelated. It’s their experience, after all!
If you earn EXP that is not related to any of your main characters (e.g. gift art), you can nominate any of your mains to receive it. If you do not nominate a character, we will default to giving the EXP to your first or most active character.
EXP Tallying
EXP is tallied and recorded by the mod team. You are responsible for correctly claiming EXP, however - the mod team will process but not chase up your earned EXP.
GENERAL ART
In general, art pieces are tallied according to their number of characters, body shot, colour, fill, detail and background complexity.
Only characters with approved references (mains, sides, mod NPCs) are counted.
For the exact numbers, here is an outdated calculation. As a quick reference though, most submissions earn 5 to 20 EXP and very large pieces can reach 30 to 50 EXP.
COMICS
Comics are tallied by the number of panels, the complexity of each panel and overall colour, fill and detail. Empty or near-empty panels will not be counted.
ANIMATIONS
Looping animations are tallied the same as general art for the first frame, with extra EXP according to the number of different frames and size of the animated part.
Animatics are tallied the same as comics, where each unique frame counts as a panel.
For all animations, please tell us the total number of unique drawings (cels, frames) you used.
WRITING & RP
The old calculation of 1 EXP per 200-400 words still applies but its appropriateness is unknown. Suggestions for improvement are welcome.
DOODLES & WIPS
Rough doodles and sketches do not earn EXP unless they are part of a sketchdump.
WIPs do not earn EXP.
Doodles and WIPs are welcome to be submitted for fun though!
Doodles and WIPs can also still be submitted for events and prompts. The art itself will not earn EXP, but if it sufficiently fulfils the event / prompt requirements, it will earn the EXP bonus and event influence.
SKETCHDUMPS
Sketchdumps earn a flat 12 EXP each.
To qualify as a sketchdump, it must contain a minimum of 8 doodle pieces. Examples of a single piece include: a scrapped appdate, an unfinished headshot, a compilation of eyes, a row of outfits on the same model, a mini comic.
Very small or scrappy doodles cannot count as sketchdump pieces unless they are close to finished (coloured, fairly tidy) or several are bundled together into a larger 'series'. This series can count as a piece.

Wildcards
Wildcards are randomly-drawn prizes that you can claim at every odd-hundred EXP milestone your character reaches (100, 300, 500, 700 EXP and so on). Wildcard prizes are always given to the character who earned them.
You can choose to claim a Character Token or Memory Shard (for First Oriads only) instead of a Wildcard as well.
