Estraude

Reign of Fools

30 Aug - 13 Sep 2015

In peaceful Estraude, local councils are hives of activity as the city gears up for the periodic dissolution their government. In memory of an insurgency by the lower classes many years ago, the government disbands and renews after a week lovingly called the Reign of Fools. Behind closed doors, the governing body of Estraude goes through an internal re-election process; politicians vie for important positions, from the lowest Magister to the city's Consul. Community groups such as churches and guilds step in to temporarily self govern and do what they can for the living conditions of all residents.

Rich and poor, native and foreign, all become equal as they recall their own humble roots. Homes are opened for any and all who would care to share a meal or celebration, streets become stages for any who wish to show off their craft, government buildings become temporary shelters and inns, strangers become friends. Charity blooms across the city as the less privileged are given opportunities, and the privileged are expected to give what they can to the city. Children and strangers receive gifts ranging from money, food to art or a song. Worship is offered up to Therras, Mareus and Iridus to offer thanks for lasting peace and protection, and ask for blessing upon the next government.
