Citadel of Crowns

Reality & Legend

The Citadel of Crowns is a gargantuan, ancient citadel that emerged from the bottom of the sea on the 26th Arrival 8294 (26 April 2018). It was thought to exist only in fairytale, however its emergence leads to many questions on what is truth and what is fiction in stories now widely held to be fiction. It is currently possessed by the Koben Empire, which now researches it with their allies the East Miras Kingdom.

The most famous story about the citadel is Eirene and the Citadel of Crowns. In it, mythical traveller hero Eirene travels upon a rainbow to the centre of the world, where she discovers a magnificant castle holding every treasure in existence. It is commonly depicted as below:

Citadel Treasures

As per the stories, the treasures of the Citadel may be rightfully claimed by those who choose to take possession of them. There appears to be no consquence to taking or using them yet.

The following treasures were claimed during the World's Wrath event:

  • Eye of All Sights - Claimed by Airez

  • Ring of All Armies - Claimed by Danzan

  • Pearl of All Riches - Claimed by an NPC of Koben

  • Blade of the Conqueror - Claimed by Tilia

  • Seed of the World Garden - Claimed by Ilham

Mark of the Citadel

If any other item is taken from the Citadel, the one who took it will gain the following mark on their person:

Mark Bearers

The characters in the below linked thread are afflicted with the Mark of the Citadel. You can give your character a Mark if canonically feasible at any time by commenting on it. Main and side characters are all eligible for the Mark.

Affliction

Any living thing, including animals, will get the Mark if:

  • They take an item belonging to the Citadel (i.e. including all artefacts of civilisation and excluding things there by marine incursion, such as seaweed or fish). This constitutes carrying it out of the room it was in; simply holding something and putting it down again before leaving the room does not count as taking.

    • Notes, sketches, rubbings, memories and such do not count as taking an item and will not gain a Mark.

    • Using a summoned familiar to take an item counts; the summoner will then get the Mark.

  • They have used it or possessed it for one day and one night, outside of the original room. Possessing a Citadel item that someone else took therefore will also result in gaining the Mark.

The physical characteristics of the Mark are:

  • Location is variable but limited to the outer skin.

  • Size is variable but it must be not so small as to be unclear and not so large as to be split or substantially obscured.

  • Colour may be black or near-black with a slight tint.

  • It may be slightly faded but will always be clearly visible.

Once gotten, the Mark:

  • Will not disappear if the item is passed on to someone else or returned to the Citadel.

  • Cannot be physically removed. If the body part with the Mark is removed, it will reappear elsewhere on the body.

  • Cannot be obscured. It will show through scars, illusions and other bodily or purely magical covers. It may be hidden with external covers such as clothes.

  • Itches occasionally but not consistently. The itch tends to reappear when stressed, especially with feelings of guilt.

If a Citadel item is:

  • Separated into pieces, all pieces will result in a Mark for its possessor

  • Irreparrably broken, it will no longer result in new Marks. Old Marks will remain.

Possessing multiple items from the Citadel will not result in more Marks.
