Deep Waters
17 Jun - 7 Jul 2018
The people of Nisalvini have been granted a lifeline by its environment. Although trapped and cut off, the island's amazing flora transforms before their eyes into new forms that could save them - creating air, light, food and materials. Why and how nobody knows - but they may yet live and that's the most important thing right now.
A brave few venture out into the inky waters, followed by many more. Samples are collected and research is undertaken. But it's not enough - they are too scattered, too isolated within distant barriers. The results are slow, communication is poor, and the populace grows restless. But before long, a wind of change arrives. Word spreads that there's a new Adjudicator - and that she is cut from a different cloth to her predecessor.
Helena wastes no time bringing new structure to cater for Nisalvini's changed needs. She establishes a new organisation - the Fintáni - to maintain order and personally takes charge of the research into Nisalvini's changing aquatic flora. For many, this firm-handed approach is reassuring; for others it's too much change too fast in frightening times. Either way, Nisalvini is reinvigorated with activity. The future may be uncertain but it's not so bleak now - and that if nothing else gives them the determination to face it.
