Valsk

Northern Courage

10 May - 23 May 2015

Spring has finally returned to the cold north, bringing with it new life, hopes and aspirations. In an event that takes on new meaning with the Northerners burning to prove their spirit in the face of Empire aggression, Valsk turns its attentions to their younger generation. All over Valsk, teens of age set out alone into the harsh wilds on a week-long hunting mission; their goal is to bring back a prize that will prove their skills, courage and worth. The city is alive day and night as the rest celebrate with brawls, hunts, mead and music, and demonstrate what it means to be Valski.

This cherished festival has been opened to foreigners for the first time, to spread the viking spirit and show off their Valski brawn. While visitors can't join the young initiates on their task, they are invited to the widespread sparring, drinking and hunting - perhaps even a wyvern hunt. As is the custom, the Helvarg also takes this opportunity to seek out new members; children and hopefuls can be seen chasing after Helvarg members to challenge them for a place in the guild. Forge workers, soldiers and builders reinforcing Valsk's defences continue their work through the celebrations, as do locals training for the war and helpers sending aid to their neighbour Belport - for, as they like to boast, Valsk stops for nothing.
