The Sun Never Sets
4 Jun - 17 Jun 2017
Summer arrives in Amedra along with a rising excitement. On the 12th Flowers, the Duchess’ beloved peasant-born mother will be turning 60 -and to celebrate this milestone, an extravagant fiesta open to the whole city will be held at the Rojas mansion.
Money is tight with the ongoing wars draining taxes, but the Duchess brushes this off - announcing that the fiesta will instead be decked in the wealth of Amedra’s own cultures, for what could be richer than that? Across the countryside, away from other Kingdom influences, many small peasant villages still keep the traditions and dialects of Amedra’s original 17 ethnicities alive. The Duchess invites their artists to transform her mansion’s ballrooms and gardens into a vibrant tribute for not only her mother, but the beauty and pride of her mother’s people.
Traditional songs, music, food, dress and dance – many forgotten by the city folk – set a lively and colourful atmosphere. And, their own showmanship sparked, the city people add gifts of eclectic dishes, performances and trinkets reflecting Amedra’s more modern, trading culture. From dawn to well past midnight, the city of sunrise burns bright with the simple joys of being Amedran.
